If you’ve been around BF for a while you’ve heard me say it before…but after some recent conversations on Twitter, I need to say it again.

All freelancers aren’t broke and underpaid.

All freelancers aren’t overworked.

All freelancers aren’t struggling.

I’d even say most aren’t. The problem is, for us as Black people? With the way we’re concentrated in consumer-facing media? I’m worried that our lives look a bit different.

I got lucky. My first exposure to freelancers was with people who were easily making six figures (and well into them). Few people were accepting being overworked as a norm. Almost everybody knew we could all do better.

I want you to do better too. I want you to be one of the freelancers like me who’s making more than employed people. And to get started I want to invite you to come introduce yourself over on the community boards.
