Hey!
I gave a talk for a friend’s digital marketing class last week. The students had some really good questions, but one of the best was about tips I’d give people just
graduating.
Most are things we cover here at BlackFreelance, but the one I emphasized the most was to skip niches that were already struggling.
That means spaces where you see a lot of frequent layoffs, low pay rates, and high stress. Culture writing and media are examples now.
I still believe people can find success there…it’s just that by the time an industry is turning sour for employed people, freelancers need to be extra extra careful.
But that’s what’s so great about freelancing.
You don’t have to abandon anything. You can adjust the amount of effort you put into a space and offset payment issues with higher-paying work. I talk a little about that here.
