How to respond to AI as a freelancer (Week 3)

Hey!

So you’ve probably heard the news that AI is going to decimate half the jobs on the planet (or something like that).

I don’t want to downplay the risk...AI really is going to turn a lot of jobs inside out and a lot of industries upside down...but as freelancers? That’s not our business.

Our business is shaping our work so we’re protected from, and even taking advantage of the technology. That’s why this month, we’re covering four steps you can take to respond to the threat of AI as a freelancer. So let’s go!

Make an AI SWOT

If you don’t know what a SWOT analysis is, check this link out. But it’s basically a way to assess our internal dynamics (Strengths and Weaknesses) against external (Opportunities and Threats).

Use the info you’ve picked up over the last two weeks to fill this out, but here’s an example of what it looks like for me.

Strengths

Knowledge of how clients’ customers use AI

Being in an industry with a lot of specialized, siloed knowledge

(Yours might be something like having a skill that’s hard to automate)

Weaknesses

Being a writer…clients might think they can replace me with prompts

I have some SEO-driven work. SEO writing is some of the most easily taken over by A

Opportunities

I might be able to save on proofing

There might be a chance to create much more engaging images if I get good at prompts

Threats

AI in general marketing automation

Social media

Fill this out for yourself and hold on to it. We’ll be using it for next week’s exercise.
