As much as I talk about the ways employers control our lives, you might not think I have much good to say about the experience...but I do!
My freelance business is built directly on the foundation of my 9-5 life. If it weren’t, I don’t think I’d be
looking at 10 years of better pay and a better life. I think most freelancers have an opportunity to do something similar...leverage the lessons from employers to build healthier freelance businesses.
That’s why this month, we’re covering some bright spots from your 9-5 to keep an eye out for as you shape your approach to freelancing.
What were other
departments up to?
Did you find yourself gravitating to work in other departments? Did you end up on projects with the same coworkers from a certain part of the company regularly? This might be a sign that you should pay
attention to that space.
(For me, it was software dev. I learned I communicated well with them and it’s one of the reasons
I focus on software now.)
If you’ve got a department that stands out in your 9-5 history, don’t overlook it. It might be a key to
your future best freelance business.
