Last month we talked the benefits for
getting better at sales as a freelancer.
This month we’re covering tactics...but not just any tactics. This is for people who don’t see themselves as natural salespeople and who might even be a little shy or even scared to start “selling”.
So for December, I’m going to walk through four techniques that have helped me go from terrible at sales to comfortable and confident...let’s go!
This one can be a bit trickier to practice, but if you pay attention, you’ll see plenty of opportunities pop up.
Whenever you see an ad, or even when someone approaches you to sell something, ask what the value is to you.
This is often different from what’s presented as benefits.
Value is what aligns with your goals.
So, for example, if I see a sale for free apps at the Cheesecake Factory, the benefit is free food...but what if I’m trying to eat less processed food? What if I’m trying to cook more? Then there isn’t any real value for me.
Emulation is a powerful tool for new freelancers. Spend the month checking out this featured freelancer to review their niche, services, website layout, and overall marketing. Full list here
This month, check out Ross Simmonds. Ross is a B2B marketing expert...a field I’d love to see more of us get into. You can learn more about him and his work here on his site.
