Hey!
If you asked me what skill my freelance business would be dead without...the one I absolutely have to keep updated, even after 10 years in the game...it’s sales.
And for me, it’s the most challenging.
Whatever the opposite of a natural sales person is, that’s me. I believe that people should be attracted to the value I offer and naturally find their
way to me. And sometimes that actually works!
...but not often enough to keep a business running for any length of time.
So this month, we’re going to talk about exactly what you can expect from getting serious about your sales skill development.
Keep that alignment with your niche
The thing about sales habits is that they force you to have market-focused conversations. Here’s what I mean.
I
noticed things in my business were slowing down earlier this year. I had some hunches but wasn’t sure if it was just me or something bigger.
Well after talking to some prospects and reconnecting with former clients, I learned that basically everything had slowed down. I also learned that a BUNCH of my prospects were going through major changes—new CEOs, recent acquisitions, or major layoffs.
If I hadn’t extended myself, I could’ve been sitting
there, soaking in the slowdown and internalizing that as a business owner. But because I found out what was happening, I could set expectations, timelines, and make a plan to move forward.
Never forget that every conversation is an opportunity to learn.
