When you listen to the freelancers who are
making over six figures, launching innovative new services and stepping into pure entrepreneurship, they all have one thing in common...they’ve mastered their niche.
There’s a ton of info on the site on how to choose and grow in your niche, but I want to kick off 2024 with tips on the mindset you’ll need to become a master of your niche...before you even get one freelance client.
And here’s the thing. Remember how freelancing and employment aren’t a binary?
Well, if you base your freelance business on your employed background (which I HIGHLY recommend) any work you do here will pay off in both areas...whether you’re employed, freelance, or a hybrid.
Most work
in mastering your niche is passive.
You’ll be doing more listening than taking specific action. But because there’s just so much material out there these days, it’s important to be specific.
Make sure you’re making use of trade publications...not just for a deeper understanding, but also for all the ways you can get even more granular in finding sub niches and new twists on your industry.
P.S. It’s our job as Black freelancers to spread the word on the potential out there, so if this was helpful, pass it on!
