Hope your March is off to a good start!
Last month, we covered responses to chaotic times from a mindset perspective. This month, we’re looking at specific skills.
These are the skills you’ll be using to find stability and even advantage during times of
change and uncertainty. They’ll overlap a bit with last month, since they’re extensions of the perspective you need to not just survive but thrive during times like these (which I genuinely believe is possible.)
The beauty of these is that they also apply to employment (as the world gets less stable, employment and freelancing tend to start to merge and look more similar).
Here’s what we’ll be covering:
- Focus
- Applying Systems
- Listening
- Collaboration
Listen first
I’ve been focused on selling my consulting service lately and let me tell you…it has stretched me in ways I didn’t think were possible—mostly in the areas of listening and empathy.
It’s made me look back and realize that many of the missed opportunities I’ve made in my
business have come from not listening—either to my own needs, the needs of my market, or the needs of prospects or clients.
Listening is where freelance success starts, and now, listening is more important than ever. People’s needs are shifting. That industry you’ve been in for ten years and feel you know inside and out? Change is now a norm.
So take some time out to listen with fresh ears and a new level of empathy. Ask questions. Make notes. Sit and think about what you’re hearing (and update your Strategy Notebook when necessary).
