Hey,
As a business trend, DEI is winding down…or at least transforming. This leaves us as freelancers asking a lot of questions about how it will impact us.
(The short answer is that it depends, but in my opinion, it’s likely less of a concern than you might
think.)
That’s why this month, we’re going to walk through some thoughts on what this shift in the DEI business trend means for those of us running freelance businesses.
Trends are shifting
Big players are shifting their focus on DEI, but I think
some are just dropping the façade.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing for us.
The resources that went into DEI are now moving elsewhere, and as freelancers, we’re agile enough to change and keep up with that change. This is too hard to keep up with across the entire business world, but you can stay on top of your
niche.
This is one reason I recommend getting started with a CRM like HubSpot immediately…the minute you even consider freelancing. You can start making lists of companies you’re paying attention
to, watching their hiring practices on LinkedIn, and even connecting with individuals to watch what they’re up to. This is the kind of info that’s valuable whether you’re freelancing or employed.
With everything going on in the world, new opportunities are still emerging. Our job as freelancers is to position ourselves to take advantage of them.
