Hey!
One of my favorite quotes in business is one I live by as a freelancer.
"You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems." -James Clear
Systems-forward thinking can be a bit uncomfortable for people new to freelancing, especially if you come out of employment where goals get a lot of emphasis and are often passed
down to you from other parts of an organization.
As freelancers, a systems-forward perspective is a critical mindset shift. It not only gives us a strong foundation, but also keeps us on the simplest and most effective path to growth and adaptation.
This month, we’re going to be talking about developing and keeping a systems-forward mindset, especially early in
our freelance journey.
Why systems are actually freeing
Stepping into freelancing with a systems-forward attitude can be overwhelming…how does anybody manage bookkeeping and client intake and lead gen all at the same time? Don’t people get totally eaten alive by all this?
And honestly…if you go in goals-first, you probably will be. You know all those times you hear freelancers or solo business owners say they’re working harder than they did as employees and never get to rest? It’s usually a systems problem.
That’s because your goal should be to figure out how to build systems that create the business and life you want. That’s where the freedom comes in.
There are so many opportunities with automation, AI, and outsourcing these days, that a systems-forward approach to freelancing has never been easier.
