Hey,
Your niche is one of the foundational pillars of your freelance strategy. When you focus here and keep it updated, you’re on the way to lower-friction freelancing and providing yourself with stability and sustainability in your work life.
But in a world like today’s when everything seems to be shifting, making choices in your niche can be difficult.
That’s why this month, we’re looking at how you should be approaching, choosing, and refreshing your niche in uncertain times.
(If you’re new to niches, this resource page will get you started.)
Ready? Let’s do this!
Be ready for change
If you’re wondering when it’s time to make changes to your freelance niche strategy to prepare for change, it’s now.
Whether you’re in an industry like manufacturing where the tariff chaos is directly impacting you or one like software where the waves won’t be as big, you should be ready to move.
This is because, at some level, you will be
impacted.
Maybe your clients are all slowing on their spending, but maybe it’s something smaller like the cost of your next laptop increasing or a freelance partner stepping away from their business. Either way, look at the industries that will be the most and least impacted by
tariffs, and start thinking of ways the shifts might affect your niche.
And if you’re looking for insight from your fellow freelancers, I invite you to come join our Discord to share what you’re seeing and to learn from others in this community. See you there!
