Waiting on that perfect first step to do anything in freelancing — whether it’s launching your website or jumping into a new niche — is a mistake…not just because it keeps you from the life you want, but also because there is no such thing as “perfect” or “right” in this world.

Creating your freelance life is a process of both learning yourself, and learning where you fit.

If you’re still reluctant, write down a list of all the things you’re missing out on by putting off an independent work life. Read through it. Then write down all the good reasons you have for not starting something today. Let me know how you feel.

Signing every client, even your first one, is all about making them believe you’re a better choice than their alternatives (hiring someone else, doing the work internally, putting their project off just a little bit longer).
