I didn’t start freelancing until a job tore up my physical health, mental well-being, and then, thankfully, laid me off.
It’s hard for me not to look back now and wonder… “What took you so long?”
For me, it was believing that my work situation would magically get better, even though year after year, it had only gotten worse. On top of that, there was fear over money as well emotional investment in
the concept of a traditional job. Now that I know those things slow me down in moving toward what’s important to me in life, I can see where they’re causing me problems as a freelancer, and work to move them out of the way. That’s why this week’s freelance tip is…
Pay attention to what slows you down.
This is an extra important skill when it comes to getting clients (our focus for
November), since there are so many reasons for you to continue to drag your feet on something that you know, deep down, isn’t even that risky (hello bidding sites).
Take some time this week to look at opportunities in your life you let pass by and ask yourself why. You might even want to write them down. There’s a good chance you’ll find some answers to what might be holding you back in your freelance
life.

Looking to get started on bidding sites? They’re the easiest way to dip a toe in the freelance pool, and I just finished
a new post on the 5 most important points you need to consider to get going on sites like Upwork and
Freelancer. (You’ll even find a list of a full 71 more sites!)
