Why I turned down a full-time job & the importance of your testimonials…

Hi !

When was the last time you bought something without getting a review first?

It might have been a recommendation from a friend, a commercial, even a review on a site. As a society, we’ve been conditioned to expect reviews before we buy — this is something you must keep in mind when selling your freelance services because regardless of what you sell, a human being who’s learned to expect reviews is going to be making the final decision. That’s why this week’s freelancing tip is...

Feature your testimonials prominently.

If that sounds difficult, don’t worry too much. A testimonial doesn’t have to be a love poem from a $40K client. It can be anything as simple as someone praising you for getting the job done on time or enjoying your easy-going personality. Just remember to create a link on your home page that’s easy to find.

Site News
Last week, one of my clients offered me a job.

It’s been a long, informal interview process where we’ve been getting a feel for each other and how we work. It was a hard decision, but I decided against working with them full time (I’m still staying on as a content creator and consultant.) Read more about how I came to that decision here.

Your Site Colors
When you chose your site colors, did you just pick ones you like or did you give it deeper thought? Turns out different industries have different “generally accepted” colors and it could be helpful if you know what yours are. I ran across this useful chart that I’m personally planning on referring back to once I start putting together my official color palette.

Hope everything’s going well on your end and as always, if you have any questions, comments or just want to talk, just reply to this email. Talk to you later!
