When I started freelancing, I was in a pretty tight spot.
I’d just been laid off from a job that was killing my health and I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with my life. I did, however, know that I didn’t want to go back to a normal job. I also knew I liked writing and understood the healthcare industry, so I decided I would write.
…but then it hit me…what if no one wanted my writing? What
if, no matter how good I was, I couldn’t produce work that people were willing to pay me for?
I pushed through though, and learned something interesting. Clients aren’t necessarily looking for your “best”, they just want their problems addressed. My mistake was that I was so focused on what I could or couldn’t do, that I was ignoring what freelancing really is. That’s why this week’s freelance tip is…
Forget about
what you do, and focus on what clients need.
This concept impacts a lot of your freelance career, but since it’s website month at BlackFreelance Academy and all our members are working on improving their online presences, I wanted to share a post with you. It’s about how focusing on your “best” can sometimes lead you off course when creating an effective freelance portfolio.
You can check that out here.
Have a great week, and remember — if you know anyone that might find these emails useful, feel free to pass them along…Have a great
day!
Megan.
