The art of responding to freelance job listings…

Published: Sun, 05/29/16

Hi

I had one of those freelance panic moments last week…the ones I really think I should be over by now.

I had a couple bigger assignments wrapping up at the same time, and all of a sudden, I found myself working only my regular clients…good income, but not enough. That’s when it hit me…that awful feeling that I’ll never find another client again…and I panicked — but only for a split second.

This kind of thing used to send me into a spin of questioning my decision to become a freelance content strategist and writer, but since I decided to take a more systematic approach, I knew exactly what I needed to do...something that is also this week’s tip…

Be proactive.

Now, instead of wondering if I was a fool for ditching my corporate life, I just use that energy to start actively contacting clients. One of my favorite ways (even with Upwork acting a fool) is on bidding or job sites. Even as a more advanced freelancer, I’m able to find jobs on these sites, but if you’re new, it’s a great way to cut your teeth and really get used to the back and forth of client engagement in the simplest way possible.

I put together this post on how to respond to freelance job listings to help you get started doing the same thing yourself. It’s broken into steps, but after reading through it, you’ll have a great foundation for creating your own, personal system for responding to jobs you find.

Also, don’t forget that we’re talking about more than just Upwork! You can find jobs on Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed…any traditional job board, so get out there are see what you can find!

If you’ve got any questions, feel free to shoot them over or leave them in the comments on that post. Talk to you soon!

Megan.
