I took a look at myself a year after I started freelancing and saw someone who weighed 40lbs less, hadn’t caught one cold, whose skin had cleared up, who’d stopped using Tums and who no longer needed eye drops.
Seeing that change…seeing the effects of what I thought was age fade away…taught me to really pay attention to my physical health. As a freelancer, it’s something you should keep a handle on too, which
is why this week’s freelance tip is
Pay attention to your physical self.
Physical health is a broad concept, but paying attention to just a few categories can make a huge difference. These are the ones I focus on the closest.
- Sleep and Rest: Getting enough, but not too much, matters more than you know.
- Physical activity: You don’t have to run
marathons…little changes add up.
- Diet: More plants, less processed food, more water. Diet doesn’t have to be complicated (or boring.)
- Environment: A good office chair, quality mattress, plants in your home, the shoes you wear, your safety…all of these have a direct impact on your long-term physical health and success as a freelancer.
I found that these things improved naturally when I started freelancing, but more
importantly, I had more energy to push them even further. Right now, I’m focused on hitting the gym more…what about you? Where can you make the small changes that add up over time?
Megan.
