You’ve got a lot of questions to answer when you start freelancing, but one of the most important is what kind of web presence works best for your business.
In the Academy this month, we’re all working through laying the foundation of that presence, but it can be difficult to know what the best start for you is.
Personally, I’m a fan of kicking everything off where it’s easiest
(just getting started matters), so for most freelancers, I recommend
getting on a bidding site, creating a profile, and looking for what kind of jobs are available and what fits with your expertise. This is where you get the information that you’ll use to build a website later on that really works
for your business.
You though, might be someone who already has a blog (or YouTube channel, Instagram, etc.) and is wondering how you can use it for your freelance business. This can be very tricky since people who pay freelancers don’t tend to take these kinds of presences as seriously. Still, they can serve as great portfolio pages that you can link to from a formal freelance bidding site profile or website.
Regardless, I’m a fan of having more
than one presence since you just never know where someone will find your work so
this Web Presence month, think about setting up more than one. Talk to you soon!
