What freelance service gets your foot in the door?

Published: Sun, 11/26/17

Hi

Last week we talked about focusing on getting bills paid, and this week, we’re keeping things simple again and talking about the services that open doors.

You might’ve heard about freelancers who are landing 5-figure deals, but the truth is that those don’t happen overnight. Most are the result of a relationship that was built over time and those relationships? They usually start with a simple service.

I have two clients testing me out right now with simple services (blogs and a mini-whitepaper) and neither takes more than a few hours to complete. Both of those are low risk for both them and me, so it’s an easy way to get a feel for each other without putting thousands of dollars on the line.

The question you should be trying to answer is what’s your simple service? Is it blogs? Logos? PDF design? Article reading? What kind of support do you see people proactively searching for on sites like Upwork, Indeed and Guru? What do you see other freelancers selling?

Once you know it, you know what to sell and you’ll have a much easier time turning cold prospects into profitable, long-term clients.
