“I’ve seen nothing inconsistent with the statement that the workplace has generally gotten worse.”
“The work hours that companies are demanding of their employees are causing the breakup of marriages, burdens on raising children, and general disruption to family life.”
“We are harming both company performance and individual well-being, and this needs to be the clarion call for us to stop. There is too much damage being done.”
Those are from an interview with the author of the new book, Dying for a Paycheck. I’m picking up a copy, but I really don’t need any convincing — I’ve seen coworkers have chest pains at 25, strokes at 38, and even die in their early 40s, all from stress at work.
Workplaces are generally unhealthy and they’re not likely to get better anytime soon. That’s why from here on out, having flexibility in how you earn won’t just be important, it’ll be a literal life-saver.
I won’t tell anybody to quit their jobs…you might not be able to. You might even love the job you have right now. All of that is fine. What you don’t want to happen though, is getting caught in a cycle
where you’re too burnt out by a job that’s stealing your life to search for a new one. That’s why you should start building control of your own income today.
That process? Starts with your Freelance Profile Workbook. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can do that here, and if you’re stuck, shoot me an email with where you left off so we can figure out how to get you moving again.
I made the mistake of waiting until a layoff to build my freelance income and ended up trying to start a business while recovering from burnout. Trust, you don’t
want to take that route.
