This week I want to talk about a prospecting method
that pays off more quickly than...pretty much any method.
That’s trade magazines.
First let’s talk about what trade mags actually are. Most people don’t read them and unless you’re pretty deep in your career, you might not either...let me tell
you though...if you ever want real insight into how a segment of business functions? These are where to start...ESPECIALLY if you’re a writer.
They’re basically publications and platform that discuss the news and trends for an industry. They exist for a ton of industries and trades. The thing is, that anybody listed in a trade mag is usually going to be more involved and active in their business than other prospects.
I usually use them by jumping in and running through the articles, press releases, and site resources for mentions of company names. That’s just the beginning though, because ads and even events can house vendor lists and organizations
you can add to your list.
What’s probably most important though, is a newsletter. If
they gave one, definitely sign up. I’ve been on lists for years and they’re a great, low-effort way to beef up your knowledge of your niche.
If you have any issues finding a mag for your niche, check out this list. If you still need some help, let me know or come by the Skype group! I’ll see if I can’t help you dig something up.
