Between the free content, the Academy, quizzes, workbooks and everything else around here, not to mention the dozens of other platforms for independent workers, freelancing can start to seem really…complicated.

The truth is though, it isn’t.

If you’ve noticed, I really only talk about 5 basic things at BlackFreelance. That’s intentional.

That’s because once you get those down, you’re set up to build a career that gets you where you want to go. Everything else is just…extra.

Pay attention each week, and you’ll see that pretty much everything I talk about falls under one of these statements…

• Know that you have options and that you deserve to be paid (and paid well) for the value you provide.
• Specialize in a way that aligns with your goals.
• Listen to demand before you pay attention to passion.
• Practice good habits.
• Trust your process and your strategy.

That’s it.

So if you’re feeling stressed or confused, take a deep breath.

Shaping a freelance career can be a long road, but as long as you’re focused and putting one foot in front of the other, you’re doing great.
