Coming off of tax time there seem to be more articles than normal about financial health floating around. (Or maybe I’m just noticing them more after paying a tax bill.) Regardless, I don’t think we talk about earning
enough.
I don’t know if it’s because we think it’s not woke to want to maximize what we get paid for our work, but that conversation’s getting neglected, and that’s
dangerous. Too much of freelancing success just comes down to earning more.
Making marketing worth your time, easing tax stress, even finding clients who
are enjoyable…all those things get better the more you earn.
A lot of us though, are stuck thinking that we can’t earn more, that $50/hr is enough to charge (it’s
not…you should be closer to $75 MINIMUM), that focusing on money is wrong or distasteful.
None of that is true and honestly, you owe yourself more.
If you’ve been prioritizing passion or fear over income, I want you to turn that upside down. I want you to rethink Phase 1 of your workbook and start thinking of yourself as someone who’s working toward a profitable freelance career.
Then, I want you to consider another niche. Even if it’s just a second niche that fuels your lower-paying one.
Don’t know where to start? Here are a couple of suggestions…
Real Estate
Law
B2B
Health/Medical
Financial Services
…and if you’d be interested in a blog post on evaluating a new niche, just reply to this email and let me know. Talk to you soon!
