I’ve been thinking a lot about mindset lately (especially since I’m at a point where I want to push my freelance business deep into the six-figure range and explore consulting.)
I’ve been genuinely surprised at how, even as an established freelancer, moving to the next level involves overcoming some of the same fears and mindset issues that came up when I first
started…
Am I good enough?
Will people hire me?
Is my skill needed?
Is there enough work?
Last week I ran across a consulting coach who reminded me of the answer to that last one.
There is work. There’s a lot of work. There’s more work than the current crop of freelancers can fill.
Even though it feels like it when we can’t seem to get that next client or even the first one, the problem isn’t a lack of work. It’s how we align ourselves and whether we’re willing to go where the work is vs. where we want it to be.
That’s one reason why I maintain Niche Notebooks in the Academy (if you haven’t considered trying out your free month, it might be time).
Figuring out where the work is can take time, but it mostly takes communication and collaboration with people in your niche and with other freelancers. Don’t be out here trying to do this alone.
