Shaping a profitable freelance career doesn’t have to be near as complicated as it seems.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying it’s easy. I’m saying that the paths that take you where you want to go are probably right in front of you. You just have to look for the clues.
Clues
from your employmed past.
Clues from your education.
Clues from freelancers around you.
Clues from the business world.
Here’s an example.
I paid for a session with a coach a while back on how
to build a profitable freelance career. This guy charges hundreds of dollars an hour, but 30 minutes changed the way I look at freelancing (and turned into thousands of dollars worth of work), and that’s all because of one piece of advice.
Connect with agencies.
That’s not because agencies are some magical force in freelancing. They’re not.
What they are is proof that someone else has found a viable path. A path that they realized is so sustainable, they built a whole business around it.
There are clues like that everywhere…basically any established business (with a working revenue model…I don’t count most publications in that group) is a signal to you that there’s potential.
The question is, are you keeping an eye out for the paths that will help you meet your goals, or hoping everything will just work out?
