Freelance careers can take a minute to get moving, but 9 times outta 10, when someone’s stuck and frustrated, the problem is marketing.
If you’ve been employed for a while, it’s a little hard to accept that now, you’re your own marketing department. If that sounds like you, here are some marketing truths (some positive, some are just facts) to keep in mind.
- If you don’t market, you have no control over the quality of your clients
- People won’t find you just because you’re good
- Marketing can be a refreshing break from the repetition of production work
- Marketing gets easier (and more productive) with time.
So if it’s not on your calendar right now, set aside some time for marketing…even if it’s only 30 min a week.
If you aren’t ready to contact anybody, that’s fine. Just get in the habit of setting that time apart and respecting it. Your freelance career depends on it.
