I wrote this before the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, but now it’s more pertinent than before.
As shocked as some people are about the rise of open racism around the world, me? I started preparing a couple of years into President Obama’s first term.
I wasn’t sure things would get worse, but I remember my grandmother talking about White people’s reactions after his presidency…and you know what? She was right. What’s happening to Black people around the world (because it isn’t just the U.S.,) is proof.
That’s part of the reason I started focusing on location independent work years ago.
Not just for the opportunity to leave the country, but to have more flexibility in the states, counties, or neighborhoods I choose to live my life in.
I don’t know what’s going to happen, and location independence can’t solve everything, but I think in the coming years, being able to make choices about where we live and more importantly, who we live around, will become
more important for us, regardless of where we are around the world.
That’s why I want you to take freelancing seriously.
Even if it’s only an hour a week, get on that notebook, start listening to your niche, and start
narrowing down a skill.
