If anyone tells you their freelance career has been completely smooth, they’re either not telling the truth, or really lucky (and probably privileged.)
The truth is, walking away from employment involves risk, discomfort, and discovering things about yourself that you probably never knew.
That’s why it’s so critical to know your core motivator.
Me, I love being able to earn more, set my own schedule, and learn new things, but what kept me going when things seemed impossible, huge clients were quitting at the worst time, and I thought that maybe I’d done serious damage to my career?
It was the pain and damage I’d experienced from abusive work environments.
I talk a little about that in the thread here, but what’s way more important than that, is you identifying yours.
You need to have a motivation that’s bigger than failure, bigger than fear, and that’s worth a few (strategic) risks that you’ll need to take as a freelancer.
Think about that, and when you think you know it, write it out as a reply to this email. (You’ll be surprised at how powerful it is to write these things down.)
