When I started freelancing as a content marketer, I was nervous.
I knew I could blog and even string a few posts together, but could I really do what a content marketer needed to do for their clients?
To convince myself, I took up a content marketing certification.
I could’ve picked a lot of skills that seemed right…blogging, writing, creativity…but since I was seeing content marketing jobs posted, I made sure to develop my skills in an area I knew was in demand.
One thing new or “pre-lancers” miss (especially creatives) is that most of the time, when it comes to building a reliable client base, it’s more important to develop the skills that the market wants before we focus on our core abilities. (They’re often “good enough” already.)
Not only does that help you connect with more clients, it can also be the confidence boost you need to get your freelance career off the ground.
