Can I talk a little more about Upwork this week? I’m still seeing people panicked about what they’re going to do to find work.
This is one of those times I’m glad I had some old-school freelance coaches. There are people out here who got started freelancing well before the Internet became a standard part of life. That means they learned how to make a good income before any of these platforms were even a thing.
You know I love platforms — Upwork, Skyword and Contently make up tens of thousands of dollars in income for me every year. But you know what? I don’t need them.
My freelance career is bigger than any one platform. If LinkedIn went down tomorrow, I still know how to contact companies directly and get work, and frankly, that’s a good feeling to have.
If you’re feeling a little too platform-dependent, maybe now’s a good time to work on your prospecting game. Once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty fun.
