About 2 weeks ago, I woke up in Japan, amazingly thankful for where my life was.
See…just 7 or so years ago, I was miserable, stressed out, and facing reproductive health issues in a “good job”. Only a couple of people around me understood why I was so unhappy, because who complains when they have a steady, above average check?
I woke up thankful because as I’m rolling to the mid-point of my 39th year on this planet, I can’t imagine where I’d be if I were still stuck interviewing, navigating racist coworkers, and figuring out a career that’s dependent on employers’ whims.
Freelancing saved me from that, but it can do so much more…it’s gotten people through periods of unemployment and underemployment, helped people pay off debt, get through eternal job hunts, fund vacations, and even save for retirement.
Freelancing is a ridiculously powerful career tool…but you’ll only see results if you treat it that way — not as a hobby, outlet for your passion, or something you try out when you’re bored.
Treat freelancing like a serious, strategic part of your career and you’ll be that much closer to a life that works for you.
