There are two, major things that keep people from stepping out into freelancing — loss of a steady paycheck and figuring out the benefits puzzle alone.
In countries like the US where retirement and health insurance (as well as disability and even life insurance) are tied up with an employer, the idea of breaking ties is even more risky.
But some people want to change that.
As freelancing is becoming more common, we’re seeing companies stepping out and basically acting as mini-HR departments for freelancers, giving us the security that used to only be available to the W-2 crowd.
I put together quick profiles of two of them here, but keep an eye out. As more people jump into the freelance game, we can expect things to change, and probably quickly.
