That’s a question I wished I would’ve asked myself earlier in my career. Not because I was on shaky ground (I worked in the same office for over 10 years), but because depending on an employer is always a liability.
A liability as in settling for a mediocre job because of fear, accepting blows to your physical and mental health because of a check or title, or having the rug pulled out from under you after a layoff. (I did all three.)
I want you to start asking the question earlier than I did, and finding a more sustainable answer too, because you never know how much employer dependence is costing you until you make some distance.
