At least for most of us they are.
Too many of us see benefits as some mystical package that only employers can put together. But that’s not true.
Benefits can be bought. Specific health and family situations aside, benefits are mostly just money (which is why employers consider them to be about 30% of your total compensation package.)
For those of us who step out as full-time freelancers, it’s on us to evaluate, assemble, and fund our own packages — and that’s exactly why it’s so important to work those costs into our rates.
Remember, even if you can’t today, if you’re freelancing full-time, you should eventually be able to afford any benefit an employer provides.
