If you only get one thing from BlackFreelance during this pandemic, I want it to be an understanding of what a niche really is.
That’s because in the coming months and years, we’re all going to need to focus on getting more out of our work, and that usually comes down to your niche more than your skill set.
Your skill is what you do. Your niche is who you do it for.
I write. I could do that for Amazon, Ebony, or small eCommerce companies — but I do it for companies in the field I have the most experience (healthcare tech.)
That’s because I want my work to bring me freedom, and that takes money. You might have different goals, but finding the field that’s going to get you there is seldom about changing what you do.
It’s usually about looking for a niche dimension (industry, business type, location, etc.) that aligns with your goals.
So next time you’re working on your Strategy Workbook and stuck on how to shape your business, skip up to Phase 2, look in your educational and work background, and see where you’ve got the most leverage. That’s probably the best place to start.
