There are a lot of ways to look at freelancing. My favorite is the idea that you’re taking responsibility for business functions that you pass off when you’re employed.
That drops marketing, sales, accounting, project management and a bunch of other work into your lap. (The benefit being you get to decide how all those look.)
Can it be overwhelming? Yes. But shifting your perspective can make things a LOT easier.
If you break up your responsibilities into roles, and only focus on those roles at specific times, things start to look a lot more organized and manageable. That’s just the start though. There are a ton of other benefits, from less stress, to easier skill development.
