There’s a lot hidden in the “indie” part of “indie worker”.

 

All those business functions that an employer handles — marketing, IT support, bookkeeping, accounting — we have to figure out ourselves.

 

You know I’m always pushing for Black freelancers to really dig into our marketing…but that’s because there’s so much to learn about the business environments we’re freelancing in.

 

The rest of it though? I think we can pass it off.

 

For many of us, there’s just going to be little benefit in learning the details of our local small business accounting standards or becoming IT pros (on top of everything else).

 

Most of us will see big benefit from outsourcing that work…and the great thing is? There’s usually someone out there who does what you need.
