Hey!
If you follow me on Twitter you know I’ve got a lot of critiques for employment (basically the whole #BlackBurnout hashtag)…but you know what? My freelance career? It’s built on my employed experience.
My beef isn’t with employment in general…it’s with how employers behave now. I actually think employment can be really useful in informing a freelance career that’s built to last and backed up by solid market information.
Beyond that, employment can be a smart choice depending on where you are mentally, the phase you’re in in life…even just when you don’t want to deal with marketing and sales and taxes.
Freelancing and employment aren’t opposites.
Matter of fact, I think most of us should and will do a combination of both across our lifetimes. That’s just what modern careers look like.
The problem is when you aren’t benefitting from the employment relationship. Other than that, employment can be great.
