So you might’ve seen me tweet about how I avoid work that goes through HR as a freelancer.
That’s recruiters, assistants, HR directors…doesn’t matter.
That’s because I really think HR is where employers do their worst exploitation. They might call you an employee, a freelancer, or a gig worker…but they’ve already that the HR door? It’s where they should be getting their biggest discounts on labor.
So I only go in as a vendor — working directly with people who use my work. I encourage freelancers like you to do the same.
I’ll admit though, it can take a while to figure out who those people are in your space. For me it came down to talking to other, experienced freelancers. If you don’t know where to start, come by the community boards. You might find someone who knows exactly where you need to jump in.
