Freelancing is a mental shift. That doesn’t get acknowledged enough.
Employment might not be natural, but it’s engrained in so much of our society, it might as well be. That’s why…if you actually want to take steps toward employer independence, you need to get around your people.
Talking to indie people I hear a LOT of stories of early exposure—them growing up with parents who were self employed (like I did) or spending time in communities of people who don’t define their lives by employment status (like I talk about later in the podcast episode
here).
If you didn’t get that exposure, that mental shift doesn’t have to involve you forcing yourself to think and live differently. You can see a lot of progress and growth just by making indie work organic to your life.
That’s why the BlackFreelance Mighty Networks group exists, but don’t let that be your only source. Freelancing is a big world and your opportunities are out there in multiple spaces.
