Hey!
So the short answer to that is no.
In my 7+ years freelancing, not one person has asked about my education…not the people showing up on the Fortune 10 list or the 20-person business that let’s me do what I want with their marketing. I’ve even run across people who’ve made WELL into 6-figures with a high school
education.
But…(you knew there was a “but” coming, right?)
…it’s all about experience, value, and results.
My experience in healthcare? Extremely uncommon without at least a bachelors’ in your background. Those people making much more than me with a high school diploma? They were extremely strategic about finding spaces (like sales/direct response writing) where people cared more about results than anything else.
So the answer to whether you need a degree to freelance…it’s definitely less important than in employment spaces (that value the image of education) but practical results matter. (So focus on where you can provide the most value for the least effort.)
