Most freelancers struggle with finding a place where they can really stand out, charge more, and be picky about who they work with.

I think that’s because too many of us take a singular path.

We build our careers in spaces where things are straightforward…but that’s what everybody does.

When you look for cross-disciplinary spaces—spaces where two (or more) niches intersect—that’s where you can really shine.

 

Take me for example. I’m a content person in healthcare B2B SaaS. If I’d done flat healthcare or just B2B SaaS, I wouldn’t really be anything special. Instead, I’m pretty sure I’m just about the only person who does what I do. (Maybe they exist, but I haven’t run across them.)

So, while you’re discovering your niche, look to see if you can’t find where your employment history intersects with your interests, or even business trends.
