Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business — “self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey! Happy CEO month!
We’re closing out October (on top of doing Income and Assessment), and covering a few reasons this might be the season to refresh your freelance
strategy.
This week, we’re talking your partners.
For bigger businesses, this falls under “business development” and it’s the same for us…none of us need to be out here alone. If you feel like you are, it might be time to rethink your strategy.
Do you have freelance friends?
It’s normal to feel lonely when we start freelancing, but if you’re a couple a years in and don’t have people referring you work, connecting you with leads, or giving you tips…it might be time to rethink some things. Here are a few tips for finding those strategic
partnerships:
- Keep in contact with old leads. Sometimes they move around a lot and are your best resource in getting your name out there.
- Join groups. Possibly on LinkedIn (I haven’t had much success there, but others have), maybe even Facebook or groups on other platforms (like this one)…you never know who you’re going to run into.
- Be a partner. I’ve found that when I refer work, people are quick to reciprocate for years on end.
Walk through those, and if you’re looking to find other ways to build your strategic partnerships, come by the Academy boards and let’s talk it out!
