Every month we run through a series of questions to help
you run your freelance business like a bigger business — “self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey! Happy CMO month!
You’re the CMO (chief marketing officer) of your business, so this month, we’re talking efficiency.
Efficiency matters, because ideally, your marketing should take less and less work over time.
When you start as a freelancer, it’s perfectly normal to spend 100% of your free time getting your name out there, sending letters of introduction, and learning about your market. But you don’t want that to go on forever. That’s why we want to answer one, critical question about your 2021 marketing.
Was it efficient?
If you’re a couple of years into your life as a freelancer and marketing still feels like a drain, you might not be as efficient as you could be. Ask yourself a few questions:
- Am I tracking what works and what doesn’t so I’m not burning time on low-value tasks?
- Am I continually trying to focus on the “easiest”, highest-value wins so my marketing work pays off as much as possible?
- Am I paying attention to how much time I’m spending on marketing overall?
…and if you’re having a hard time pinning down answers to any of those, come by the Academy boards and let’s talk it out!
