Every month we run
through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business — “self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey! Happy CMO month!
We’ve been talking marketing tactics on LinkedIn…so if you haven’t yet, close the month out with this post. It explains how I use LinkedIn paid email as a marketing tactic to save time and do a better job connecting with my freelance target
market.
This week we’re covering more of a principle than a tactic, but it’s the most important one…
Test
Probably the worst thing about ads is the trial and error. You can get great advice and have an amazing plan, but ultimately you have to dig around and try things until you find what works for you. That said, here are a few tips.
- Start small. Kick things off with a budget and frequency you can manage and maintain easily.
- Test one thing at a time. Too many variables make it hard to see what actually works.
- Make sure your sample size/target audience is big enough. Small audiences mean that your results could be thrown off by flukes.
This is an ongoing process (it’s taken me a couple years to get it straight), so make sure you’re not siloed off on your own. If you need some input, come by the Academy boards
and let’s talk it out!
