Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business — “self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
Hey! Happy Production Month!
This May, we’re taking a look at ourselves as workers.
This means taking a step back, asking whether we can afford to pay ourselves as workers for our freelance business. This can be a rough conversation, but I promise you that it’s worth taking a hard look at each topic we cover.
This week we’re looking at something basic.
You’re not bringing in enough money.
This is a problem almost every freelancer starts out with, so if you’re only a year or so into the game and are struggling here, don’t worry.
However.
If you’re a few years in and can’t afford to pay your bills, that’s a VERY clear sign you can’t afford yourself as a worker.
Whatever you’re doing as a freelancer, you should at least be able to afford your labor…definitely above minimum wage.
So if you can’t, it might be time to up your rates…or maybe rethink your market altogether.
And if you want to talk out how you can start shifting your mindset? Come by the Academy boards and let’s talk it out!
