Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life.
We’re closing out Reflection & Assessment month, so don’t forget to fill out your Reflection & Assessment before July closes out.
In the meantime, we’re covering the last of 5 business secrets your money wants to tell you. This week, we’re getting granular with service.
Secrets from your service income
Some services pay better than others.
For me, the money I bring in (for hours and effort) making videos is much higher than, say…a blog. (And these days I enjoy it more.)
That’s what pushed me to start marketing video more…but I would’ve have known to do that if I hadn’t been tracking my income against hours worked.
This isn’t something you necessarily want to do all the time, but it can be ridiculously useful if you’re in a period where you want to increase your income without changing much.
Sometimes you can see a boost just from selling what you know earns more for less effort. But that’s just the start.
You might find you’re not getting paid near enough for a service you don’t like all that much and that it’s time to raise rates.
Regardless, if you’ve never done this (or haven’t done it in a while), give it a shot. You might be surprised at what you find.
If you want to compare what you’re finding with other freelancers, come by the Academy boards and let’s talk it out!
