Hey!
We’re moving forward with some content marketing definitions, and this is one I hear a lot.
A business case is basically a reason a business has to do something—a reason that supports the mission and health of a business.
Here’s CMI’s definition specifically for content marketing:
A business case captures the reasoning for an organization to invest in content as a component of its marketing strategy. Typically delivered to executive management in the form of a document or presentation, it’s a helpful tool for building stakeholder understanding and support necessary to execute the program effectively.
You’ll benefit from understanding this concept in a few contexts.
- You should have a handle on your clients’ business case for their services and products
- Your business case for what you offer to them
- The business case for content in your freelance business
It takes practice thinking this stuff out, but once you get used to it, you’ll see it logically start to flow into all your content work.
