Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life. You can view a condensed version of this month’s coaching prompts here.
"The riches are in the niches.”
That’s one of those freelance sayings that really holds true. I’ve personally used niching down to boost my earning and know a ton of other freelancers who’ve done the same. (I’m actually on another round of going even deeper right now.)
...but how do you know when it’s a good time to take your specialization to the next level?
This month’s self-coaching questions are going to help you answer just that.
#3 Do your clients see themselves as “special”?
“We’re not like other businesses.”
A lot of businesses have highly specific challenges. A lot of businesses just feel like they do. The answer to this question is all about perception.
If you work in a market that thinks their challenges can only be understood by a specialist, then you might have an opportunity to shift your branding and marketing to align with that.
If you do decide to specialize, remember that it’s something that you’ll have to announce to the world, so be ready to be super clear in your branding and communications.
