Every month we run through a series of questions to help you run your freelance business like a bigger business—“self-coaching” your way to better results and a better life. You can view a condensed version of this month’s coaching prompts here.
Hey!
We’ve all heard about the freelance nightmare where a project gets out of hand with a ton of changes and ends up reducing the revenue for a freelancer…maybe even costing money because it eats up potential to do other work.
Well, project controls are a way to reduce that risk.
This month, we’re going to be covering four questions you can ask yourself about your business to implement better controls and build a little more safety into your work.
#3 Are you anticipating change?
Change happens in every project. But it can be different depending on the time of work.
The type of change that will derail a case study is different than the type of change that will slow down a website launch.
In my work as a writer, case studies are highly vulnerable to something like an interview subject finding out they can’t legally have their name mentioned, whereas white papers are more likely to get held up by approval and adjustments within the client themselves. If you know what types of change you’re vulnerable to, mitigating risk gets a lot easier.
If
you aren’t sure of the type of change your work runs into, come by the Academy Facebook group and let’s talk it out!
